Rediscovering the Past 🕰️

Books and Brews, Painting and Pilsners, Reduced Rub-Downs

Good morning, Quiet Corner! Today is Monday 1/20, and that means not only is it Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but it’s also National Cheese Lover’s Day! It’s a gouda day to break out that fondue set, or make yourself a nice grilled cheese! I could keep going with the cheese jokes, but I’m not muenster. Alright, before anyone says you don’t know (pepper)jack about what’s going on this week, let’s get into the Asiago-ings-on this week has to offer.

Books & Brews 📚🍻

Do you like books? How about beer? Well, I have the event for you! The Willimantic Brewing Company (967 Main St, Willimantic) is having an evening to discuss Andrew Krivak’s book The Bear (no, it has nothing to do with the TV show). This is more of an end of humanity-nature-is-taking-back-over type of book.

You can grab a copy from your local library and enjoy a discussion with some fellow readers at Willibrew while sipping on something delicious (you can never go wrong with a Certified Gold) on Tuesday 1/21 (better read fast!) at 6pm. Also, unrelated to the event, bring your appetite and order the nachos (we usually go with beer glazed onions as a topping), you’ll thank me. And you’ll have lunch for the next day (They. Are. HUGE.)!

Painting and Pilsner 🐦🍺

There’s something about going to a brewery for activities other than just drinking (although, that part is fun too). Black Pond Brews (1001 Hartford Pike, Dayville) is hosting Tunk City Revival, for an evening of painting on a piece of slate on Wednesday 1/22 from 6-8pm.

You’ll be painting a cardinal on a welcome slate (meant to be near the front door, makes sense right?). All you need to bring is a good attitude and a hankering for a delicious brew or two (they have a Peanut Butter Whoopie Pie Stout, and I mean, that sounds amazing to me).

It’ll cost $35 for the painting class (drinks are not included!), and to register you’ll need to call (860) 382-3635.

Pop-Up Massage 💆

Don’t worry, this one doesn’t have anything to do with drinking. In fact, it actually is supposed to help get rid of toxins in your body. Smoke & Mirrors (171 Providence St, Putnam) is offering 60-minute massages for $45 (that’s half what they usually go for!) on Thursday 1/23, starting at 10:30am.

You can choose from a Relaxation, Deep Tissue, and Therapeutic style, for the ideal rub down. To take advantage of this deal, send Sway a message on the Smoke & Mirrors Facebook page, or you can text (860) 576-1019. Spots are going to go quick, so make sure you jump on this opportunity while it’s still there!
