Meeting Rescued Horses, An Evening With The Grinch, A Tour Of Windham High
Good morning, Quiet Corner! Today is Monday 12/16, and that means itās National Chocolate Covered Anything Day (no, seriously). Itās the perfect day to break out that fondue set thatās been stuffed in the back of your kitchen cabinet.
Got a banana? Cover it in chocolate. Some peanuts? Into the chocolate they go. Got an extra onion laying around? You should probably leave that one alone, but, that is actually a thing in Philadelphia (look it up if you donāt believe me).

Winter Trail of Lights

Have you heard of the Hay Burr Inn Equine Rescue (169 Black Hill Rd, Plainfield)? Let me fill you in, just in case you havenāt. Iām assuming you figured out that itās a horse rescue (if you didnāt, equine = horse, now weāre all on the same page), what you may not know is that itās a non-profit organization thatās been rescuing horses for over a decade. Itās staffed fully by family and volunteers, so that means all the donations go 100% to the horses.
Now that you have the backstory, hereās whatās going on there this weekend. Come down on Friday 12/20 from 5-8pm, meet the rescues, and walk along a Ā½ mile of lighted trail. There are 16 horses and 2 donkeys to meet, so any lovers of these beautiful giants (or Eeyore fans) should come out for a lovely stroll. Tickets arenāt required but donations are suggested (they take cash and card).
Tour of Windham High School
In case you werenāt aware, Windham High School has completed the approximately $112 million dollar renovation of the school. To be celebrate the end of this monumental project, Windham Public Schools is inviting the public to an open house on 12/17 from 6-7:45pm.
There will be a presentation in the auditorium from 6:30-7:15pm detailing the entire renovation process, if youāre interested in the nitty-gritty. I actually had a chance to take a tour of the school earlier this year, and the difference/improvements are incredible. A cool little note for any Windham High Alumni, while they may have put a full coat of paint on the walls, they have hung wall art with the murals that adorned the halls for so long. Even if youāre not an alumnus, youāre still welcome to check it out!
Tavern Night With The Grinch
Ever wanted to spend an evening with a famous holiday figure? The Jillson House Museum (627 Main St) is giving you that exact chance. On Wednesday 12/18 from 5-6:30pm, youāll get the opportunity to get to know The Grinch, including their life, contributions to society, and more importantly, their favorite food and drink (donāt worry, Iām pretty sure itās not a triple-decker sauerkraut and toadstool sandwich with arsenic sauce)!
Samples of their favorite food and spirit will be available for tasting, and this promises to be an all-around fun evening. Tickets only cost $10/person and can be purchased here.

THE HIVEāS PICK
If you follow us on social media, then you might have seen my post about Chubby Dog Coffee Co (specifically the one in Danielson), and what a great spot it is. Well, theyāre trying to get everyone into the holiday spirit by hosting their first ever White Elephant/Yankee Swap event on Saturday 12/21 at 8pm at their Danielson location.
For those of you who arenāt familiar with the establishment, Chubby Dog is a haven for people who enjoy great coffee (they roast their own blends), may enjoy a cocktail (their espresso martinis are out of this world), and are into gaming (while not required, itās certainly accepted - including table top games). There are also some baked goods for sale (delicious), including from the next door bakery Little River Bread Co (138 Main St, Danielson).
Back to the Yankee Swap. This is a family-friendly event, so keep it PG when choosing your gift (which should be between $20-$30 max). You need to sign-up for the swap at either location (144 Main St, Danielson or 164 Main St, Putnam), sooner than later so they can have a good idea of how many people are participating.
Thanks for reading todayās Quiet Corner Buzz! If you got something out of it, share it with someone who waits until the week of Christmas to do their shopping.
